Trailer for the Ip Man Prequel

by kmiller

Following the success of Ip Man, a prequel has been created based off of  Ip’s childhood. It is called The Legend is Born: Ip Man. The movie features To Yu-hang, a first time actor who isn’t a stranger to Wing Chun. Yu-hang has trained in Wing Chun for six years and was also a consultant on Ip Man before being cast.

The prequel will also feature Yip Chun, Ip actual son, as Leung Bik, who in real-life would be his father’s second mentor. Another interesting fact about the prequel is the fact that the action sequences will feature long takes of up to 15 seconds each where 10 to 20 movements are exchanged without break. This will be a very refreshing film when movies nowadays feature several cuts during action sequences.

I want to learn Wing Chun just because of Ip Man. I am not only extremely excited for the sequel, but now having seen this trailer, I am equally excited to see the prequel. It’s fascinating how To Yu-Hang looks almost identical to Donnie Yen. This franchise is shaping up to be a superb feet in martial arts cinema.
