Donnie’s Next Film Projects Announced?

by kmiller

There are a few movies that have been confirmed for Donnie Yen, but they might not be what you’d expect.

Donnie Yen is a busy man, and I know that he surely has a ton of offers to sift through, especially after the success of Ip Man. He recently took a small vacation and is ready to get back into the business. Because of this, his next two projects have been announced.

The first is a supposed remake of the Eighth Happiness, which starred Chow Yun Fat. This  movie will be directed by Chan Hing Ka, who worked with Donnie in All’s Well that End Well, another comedy film. The film has been slated for a Chinese New Year release, and is known to be a comedy film, which Donnie has dabbled in recently.

Here is Donnie on the poster of All’s Well that Ends Well (as a gay makeup artist)

The second movie is a police action/comedy, but not much more is known besides some cast members (like Miriam Yeung and Eva Huang) and that it will be produced by Chui Po Chu.Chui Po Chu was the assistant producer for CJ7 and Kung Fu Hustle.

So, are you scratching your heads yet? The two movies that have been announced are comedy movies, and not films like the Expendables 2 (or even the Mr. and Mrs. Smith Remake.) Now, it could be that Donnie is trying out different roles to have more depth with his acting, or maybe he’s trying something new. I gotta admit, I really don’t see Donnie for his sense of humor. If anything, he’s always had an aura of coolness around him.

This is how I picture Donnie

Speaking of rumors, there is also a rumored project with him and Jackie which will have them team up and play a pair of code-crackers that work for the police force. I’m seriously hoping they have at least one argument that leads to a fight. For those of you that are wondering, Donnie has not confirmed that he will be working on the Expendables 2, so that is still up in the air.

Regardless of what Donnie chooses, I’m curious to see how it pans out for him. Will he leave action behind, or find out that fans only want to see him as an action star?
