Special Identity Shuts Down Production?
There is a very strong possibility that the Donnie Yen/ Vincent Zhao film, Special Identity has stopped production. Right now, all I have to refer to is a google-translated version of this article here. The Sina article states that Vincent Zhao left the set because he was dissatisfied with changes made to his character as well as the change in directors.
When Zhao signed onto the film, it was being written by Tan Bing with James Yuen directing. However, after Clarence Fok became the director, Zhao’s character was toned down and not as interesting as Donnie’s. Shooting for the film has stopped and Donnie has tried contacting Zhao, but everything is currently at a standstill.
Now I don’t have concrete evidence except for that Sina article, but this is very sad if it is true. I’m not going to talk badly about anyone until I get more details, but I hope that Zhao is professional enough to remain logical even after some story alterations. Of course, if they are truly ridiculous, I can see where Zhao is coming from. I also like that Donnie is trying to resolve the matter instead of just outing Zhao and talking badly about him.
I’ll keep you guys posted when I learn more, but what’s your reaction? Do you think that Zhao is overreacting or that he has the right to step off of the set? This could be the last we hear of Special Identity.
Special shoutout to the Stunt People Forums and Shawn Bernal for the article.
