It’s been known for a while that a third entry in the Expendables franchise (because let’s face it, this is going to be around for a while) was coming out after the expected success of the second film.  We did tell you news that Mel Gibson’s name had been floating around to be a possible candidate to direct The Expendables 3 and even John Woo’s name had been mentioned (Stallone himself even tweeted about it recently saying that he loves Woo but he’s working in China) but now we have the news that Stallone has chosen the new director for the third entry.

Patrick Hughes director

Up and coming Aussie director Patrick Hughes has been chosen by Stallone to take the director’s chair which Hughes, I’m sure, must be ecstatic with this decision.  It’s not every day that you get to direct such big names in the world of action films like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and confirmed new (new?) comer Jackie Chan with the huge possibility of directing Clint Eastwood, Wesley Snipes, Harrison Ford and Jean Claude Van Damme as well.  Wow, such a big cast of names especially for a new director.

Stallone tweeted with a guessing game to see if anyone could guess who the new director was and you can see below some of the tweets concerning this story.

Stallone sounds like a big fan of Patrick Hughes and obviously believes he can bring in fresh ideas and a new touch to the Expendables franchise.  As you can see in one of Stallone’s tweets, he says that you “…should go look at Patrick Hughes short film…called SIGNS…” so, go check out the short film for yourself below.

Stallone also says to, “Rent (Hughes’ film) Red Hill.”  You can check out the trailer below to get a feel of what Hughes’ may bring to the table.

It’s nice to see Stallone bring in a new face to direct the film and while Hughes’ will definitely have his hands full, I believe if Stallone has his faith in the guy, Hughes will do just fine.  So, are you excited for The Expendables 3?  Are you looking forward to seeing how Hughes can bring in some fresh air into the series?   Let us know in the comments below!

Stallone the” Legend,” has the wisdom, experience and intuitive / perceptive ability to choose the money-makers. Sly “The MAN” is awesome in anyone’s language. This is why we all love him; and, many of us are his disciples. We love what he does and the “way” he does it. A lethal combination is a man of power and a man of vision and a man of creative genius (A Big Money Boy is you will in the mix who have the power to make a phone call and things happen–OMG). Mega Money Boys + Mega Talent = Movie Star Heaven…..I love it. Hurrah for Hollywood….. Australia has produced mega talented boys–who are so gorgeous –those two brothers for example–smoldering, “over 6′ tall”, well-build, thick gorgeous hair (even the fibers of their hair is gorgeous, Russell Crow, Guy Pierce and so many others. I rest my case……
