Jackie Winst Best Choreography at HK Film Awards

by kmiller

JC award 2

The Hong Kong Film Awards recently took place, and Jackie won the category of best action choreography. While other action films weren’t as prominent, I think this award was well-deserved. I mean, the man was 58 when he did this film, and he can move better than people half his age.

Jackie also wrote a special message about his award on his website:

JC award 1

Many years ago, I remember my dad saying to me, “Don’t just be an action star; you need to be a good actor because you can’t continue to do action when you’re 60. But a good actor can act for many many years.”

I still remember those words very clearly, and it’s also my motivation to achieve my goal. After the Huading Awards ceremony several nights ago, CZ12 (aka Chinese Zodiac) also won Best Action Choreography at the prestigious Hong Kong Film Awards last night. My stunt team partner, He Jun, received the award with me on stage, and on the stage he thanked all the past and present Jackie Chan Stunt Team members and brothers who are now located all over the world. When I heard him say that, I felt so emotional because over the many years, the Jackie Chan stunt team has accompanied me throughout the continents around the world. They’ve helped bring out the spirit of Chinese martial arts and demonstrated professional discipline to the world. No matter how long I decide to continue with doing action, the spirit of martial arts will remain and will be handed down to future generations.

Right now, what I really want to say to my dad is that I started from not knowing any martial arts to all the acting I’ve done up until now, I haven’t let you down and I haven’t let my fans down! I want to share this award with all the action stars out there!

JC award 3

I think that Jackie easily deserved this recognition and he worked his butt off for it. While the movie may not have been as amazing as we all hoped, it still has some creative and awesome fights. Case in point:

Zodiac Fight Scene

Congrats to Jackie and the team! If this is indeed Jackie’s last big action film, it’s the icing on the cake, for sure!

Martial Arts Movie Junkie Forums Now Up

by kmiller

For the longest time, I’ve been trying to figure out what to do next for Martial Arts Movie Junkie. There is so much content out there, and a lot of it ends up slipping through the cracks. At the same time, I think that you guys are an amazing community, and I wanted something to help bring everyone even closer together.

After a lot of consideration, I’ve decided to create a forum for the website. I felt that it’s a great way to bring people in and bring attention to smaller groups while getting up to date news. You can also talk about things that are not directly linked to martial arts films, like anime or video games. The forum is not perfect, by any means, but it’s a solid foundation to create something better.

Ip Man

Before you start, be sure to read through the forum rules here. It’ll give you a good idea of what is expected and how to conduct  yourself. Be aware that the rules will change as different obstacles come up, but I’ll do my best to inform you of the changes. If you have any questions, comments, or complaints, don’t hesitate to send them my way.

I hope you guys are as excited about the forums as I am. Have fun and enjoy!

New Details on Berandal

by kmiller

Most of the people who visit this site are aware of a little film called the Raid. The more hardcore know that Berandal, the sequel to the Raid, was planned first and that it will now be a trilogy. Well, it looks like the wait for more news is almost over, as details have been released in regards to the cast.

Hammer Girl

We all knew that Iko Uwais would be coming back, but the question was who would join him? Twitch has revealed that Hammer girl will be played by Julie Estelle while other members include Alex Abbad from Merantau, Marsha Timothy from the Forbidden Door,Mathias Muchus and Tio Pakusadewo.  Lastly, internationally renowned Silat practitioner Cecep Arif Rahman will also be playing a significant role.

Here is a video of the man in action:

Cecep Arif Rahman Demo

Someone commented on one of my videos about Rahman before, and I’m super excited to see him exchange blows with the Merantau team. I’m going to be keeping a close eye on Gareth Evans’ twitter, so stay tuned for more details as filming gets closer.
