Ip Man the Final Fight (or Battle for some locations) is shaping up to be an interesting film. Wong will be bringing a more dramatic character to the film, but that doesn’t mean there is anything lacking in the action department. If you’ve seen the trailer, you know that Eric Tsang and Anthony Wong face off against each other.
Apparently, this duel took over six hours to get right. That doesn’t mean it was all work and no play, the two actually had fun doing their parts. About three hours of the rehearsal were to ensure that the fight could be completed in one take. While I doubt that the whole sequence will be shown in one take, it’s impressive that Tsang (age 60) and Wong (age 51) pulled it off.
I’m really curious how this fight will play out, and it may just be enough for me to give this film a shot. I’m hoping that the reception is good, and that we’ll see a great new addition to the Ip Man franchise.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard about Ip Man: The Final Battle, but a new trailer has helped keep things fresh in our minds. This film covers the later years of Ip’s life, and has Anthony Wong playing the (now famous) martial artist.
While this isn’t a third installment by Wilson Yip, it has enough going for it to make you wonder how the film will turn out. Give the trailer a look to see what I mean:
Personally, I kinda lost it at Eric Tsang. I don’t know how I feel about him having a serious fight with Wong. That being said, I like Anthony Wong as an actor, and think that he can bring a lot more to the character than what we’ve seen. I know that he slimmed down for the role and that he spent a lot of time training as well. Let’s hope that this one is better than the prequel that came out a few years ago.
It appears as though the Herman Yau directed Ip Man film starring Anthony Wong has come to a close. The crew filmed their last scene in Foshan recently, and they all celebrated with a banquet.
It appears as though things have gone smoothly, though I’m not 100% sure how good the film will be. I’m hoping that it is more drama-based than action, and that Wong will bring something new to Ip’s character. Given the fact that filming has wrapped, I’d say it won’t be long before we see a trailer, though I don’t know when the release is quite yet.
If there are any fellow Youtubers out there that might know how to stop my video from stuttering, I’m open to any suggestions. Thanks and enjoy the video!
Director Gordon Chan brings Woon Swee Oan’s novel to life, using a strong cast to pull in viewers. The film revolves around a set of characters that are gifted with certain powers, each with their own powers and abilities. Does Chan have what it takes to breathe life into these characters and complete the trilogy he set out to create?
I wish I could tell you about the story to the Four, but I’m still sorting it all out myself. The problem is…it’s a jumbled mess. You have two organizations that are working against each other for the same cause, a villain that has 2 completely different plans going on at the same time, and characters that seem to team up for the smallest of reasons. Once you feel like you know where things are going, things change on you, and not for the better. There are just too many things that aren’t addressed and even more that need better explanations. It may be to flesh out a trilogy, but I’d be much happier with a longer, more consistent film.
The characters are just about as bad as the story is. Some of them switch loyalties for no apparent reason while others aren’t given enough character to begin with. Everyone is a one-sided personality that is designed to create a unique group of people. Even the “love story” element is ultimately lost because there just isn’t anything to back it up. Given how many characters are in the film, it’s forgivable to have a few characters that aren’t deep, but the entire cast could use some depth. And that’s really a shame given the actors that were chosen for the film.
Action/Choreography
There are a lot of times where the story is forgivable if the action is good, but this is not one of those times. The fights are just too basic, as if everyone is just going through the motions. The end fight had a glimmer of hope, but it was quickly diminished as it continued on. The biggest issue with the fights are the powers that each character uses; there’s no explanation of what each person is capable of. One character can read minds, use telekinesis, track people, and do other things I can’t even remember anymore. It would have been much better to have each character specialize in 1 trait and use it to the fullest, instead you have powers that overlap and others that don’t make any sense.
Own it, Watch it, Try it, or Skip it?
When I first heard about the Four, I was really excited for it. Sadly, all of that was for nothing, as the film is really hard to recommend. You’ll be disappointed if you are an action fan, looking for a Mr. Vampire type supernatural movie, or even a good action movie. I’m worried because of the fact that the second film is already filming, meaning it may be too late to fix any issues that arise. Save yourself the time and avoid this one.
Once again, sorry for the bad camerawork. I did better last week, but this one is right on the edge. I’m thinking about trying something new next week (if I get the time)
Anthony Wong has been hard at work on Ip Man: The Final Battle, and there are some new images to prove it.
What I’m most amazed by is the transformation Anthony Wong has gone through for the film. I thought he’d look a little different in costume, but I didn’t realize he had lost so much weight.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the Legend Begins, but this one may be able to pull off the the prequel couldn’t. I’m convinced that Wong can add depth to Ip’s character, but I’m still not too sure on the action side of things. Needless to say, I’m curious to see how this one does.
