Vampire Warriors Review
Background Info
Jiang Luxia has been trying to become a household name for female action stars, and Bad Blood was a step in the right direction. Dennis Law wanted to utilize her potential even more by having her take on Yuen Wah, as well as a host of other martial artists. Would Vampire Warriors be able to prove to the world that Luxia has what it takes?
Story/Characters
Vampire stories are pretty overdone nowadays, and there is nothing new with Vampire Warriors. There is this strange “vampires can’t smile or feel emotion” thing going on, but it never really works for the story. The plot is decent, but it is executed in such a manner that it just comes off as generic and boring at times.
What really kills this movie (terrible pun not intended) are the characters. Some are flat, others are whiny, and others still try to be funny when they are supposed to be evil. The characters are so all over the place that they really distract from the film, diluting all of the story elements as well. Some characters tried to show depth, but it’s handled in such a manner that it comes off a insincere and cliché. Oh, and the voices? Man, are they annoying.
Action/Choreography
I want to praise the action in Vampire Warriors, I really do. The problem is that there aren’t really that many fights in the film. Sure, there are a few good ones sprinkled in here and there, but too much time is spent on developing characters we don’t care about. Luxia does an awesome job, especially when there is very little wirework, and you can see the talent she has as a fighter. Sadly, the final fight was a bit of a disappointment, and I was left wanting more.
Own it, Watch it, or Skip it?
Vampire Warriors is a pretty bad movie, but the action pieces are solid. The only problem is the fact that there aren’t very many of them. Oh, and I can see where the whole “lesbian” thing was pulled from, they even poke fun at it in the film. If you want to watch a talented new fighter, Vampire Warriors may satisfy your thirst. However, there are better movies with Luxia in them, so you won’t miss too much is you pass this one over.
