Vampire Warriors Review

by kmiller

Background Info

Jiang Luxia has been trying to become a household name for female action stars, and Bad Blood was a step in the right direction. Dennis Law wanted to utilize her potential even more by having her take on Yuen Wah, as well as a host of other martial artists. Would Vampire Warriors be able to prove to the world that Luxia has what it takes?

Story/Characters

Vampire stories are pretty overdone nowadays, and there is nothing new with Vampire Warriors. There is this strange “vampires can’t smile or feel emotion” thing going on, but it never really works for the story. The plot is decent, but it is executed in such a manner that it just comes off as generic and boring at times.

What really kills this movie (terrible pun not intended) are the characters. Some are flat, others are whiny, and others still try to be funny when they are supposed to be evil. The characters are so all over the place that they really distract from the film, diluting all of the story elements as well. Some characters tried to show depth, but it’s handled in such a manner that it comes off a insincere and cliché. Oh, and the voices? Man, are they annoying.

Action/Choreography

I want to praise the action in Vampire Warriors, I really do. The problem is that there aren’t really that many fights in the film. Sure, there are a few good ones sprinkled in here and there, but too much time is spent on developing characters we don’t care about. Luxia does an awesome job, especially when there is very little wirework, and you can see the talent she has as a fighter. Sadly, the final fight was a bit of a disappointment, and I was left wanting more.

Own it, Watch it, or Skip it?

Vampire Warriors is a pretty bad movie, but the action pieces are solid. The only problem is the fact that there aren’t very many of them. Oh, and I can see where the whole “lesbian” thing was pulled from, they even poke fun at it in the film. If you want to watch a talented new fighter, Vampire Warriors may satisfy your thirst. However, there are better movies with Luxia in them, so you won’t miss too much is you pass this one over.

Vampire Warriors Gets an Addition to UK Title

by kmiller

Dennis Law has worked on a number of films, and it’s been a while since I’ve heard from him. His most recent film, from back in 2010, was Vampire Warriors. Well, this movie is getting released in the UK….as Lesbian Vampire Warriors. Seriously, no joke.

I really don’t know what to say except to have a laugh at this. I feel like it’s the worst way of promoting a film ever. If anyone is dumb enough to buy this film just because of the title, they will be severely disappointed. I don’t even know why Arrow Films took this route, it’s kinda disgraceful to think that adding “Lesbian” to anything will make it sell better.

As far as I know, this is just for the UK version of the film (I couldn’t find it on Amazon, and the results were rather tame, to my surprise.) Anyways, you can either laugh this off or shake your head at it, your choice. I don’t even remember how good the movie was anymore…

Finishing Blow Episode 45

by kmiller

Okay, before you even play this video, I have a confession to make. I’ve mixed up the names of 3 stars: Chrissie Chau, Celina Jade, and Cecilia Cheung. Chrissie Chau is in Bauhinia Heroine and Celina Jade did the F-1 video. I have no idea how Cecilia Cheung even came into the picture, as she wasn’t in any articles this week. My apologies and sorry for the confusion. I guess the names started mixing together after a while.

Finishing Blow Episode 45

Also, this video is the longest ever. Have no idea how I’m managing to talk for such extended periods of time.

Chrissie Chau Studying Wing Chun for Next Role

by kmiller

Before you guys get too worried about another Ip Man-related film, relax. It’s just another movie about a female superhero in a leather costume. Oh, and it’s in 3D as well! That didn’t help, did it?

Chrissie Chau is starring in Bauhinia Heroine. I literally know nothing about the movie, but I can assume that the poster shows us pretty much everything we can expect from a movie like this.  Now, before everyone thinks I’m bashing the movie already, I’m not. It’s respectable that she’s training with a 3rd generation disciple of Ip Man’s to prepare for her role.

I’ve found a source that says the film is direct by Stephen Shiu, but I can’t find a director by that name. I’ve found a producer that goes by that name, and he’s produced a wide range of films. When I mean wide range, I mean he’s produced 3D Sex and Zen as well as the Iceman Cometh.Granted, it could be his debut film, but the potential of 3D kinda worries me.

To be honest, I don’t really know what to expect from this film, and I’ll keep it that way. I’ll save all my judgement for when I see a trailer, and not before that. Honestly speaking, this movie will either be decent or a complete flop. Let’s hope for decent.

Bauhinia Heroine won’t be out til 2013, so there’s still plenty of time to speculate…or make it better.
