The wait is finally over! (Or just beginning.) Some new, official images have been released for Berandal, the sequel to the Raid. This film brings back several of the original (surviving) cast members. This sequel takes place mere hours after the original movie, but that doesn’t mean the film will be any less exciting. Check out some details that are given through the press release:

Berandal 8

Picking up right where the first film ends, The Raid 2 follows Rama (Uwais) as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force.

Berandal 3

”To all our fans thank you so much for your support. We can’t wait to come back and show you what we have been working on,” said writer/director Gareth Evans. “We’ll be there in 2014 with a film bigger, better and bloodier! Wish us luck.”

Berandal 5

Berandal 7

Shooting is expected to last over 100 days with a tentative release date next year. Stay tuned for more details as they trickle in. I can’t wait to see more of what this sequel has to offer!

New Details for Berandal

Berandal Poster

People have been dying for new information regarding Berandal, and the details are finally trickling in. Gareth Evans has started to release details, and everything sounds awesome.

Raid-3

First off Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian will be returning in the film. I have no idea how Mad Dog is coming back unless he has a twin, but I could honestly care less. The cast also includes a huge number of people, including Tio Pakusadewo, Oka Antara, Alex Abbad, Arifin Putra, Julie Estelle, Marsha Timothy, Epi Kusnandar, Zack Lee, Roy Marten, Mathias Muchus, Feri Tri Yulisman, Cecep Arif Rahman. and three unnamed Japanese fighters.

The Raid 3

“There’s going to be two or three big villains in this one,” Evans has stated. It has also been noted that the last 40 to 45 minutes will be dedicated to straight action. If you are curious about the hammer girl, here are the details about her and her fighting style.

Hammer Girl

“What we are doing with [Julie’s] character is actually another form of harimau silat. Basically, in this style, you hit with a flat palm while the fingers are poised, then you can strike, grab, pull and drag. So we decided to transform it to weapon-based. Her character has two hammers, she will hit with the hard part, stab you with the claw and pull you back, so technically it’s harimau but a weapon version of it,”

The Raid 2

What about the story, you ask? Well, you can expect a lot more of that as well.

‘We start shooting on January 19th and the first scene takes place  two hours after the first film ends. It’s a much longer story. The period of time will go on for about three or four years. It’s a much bigger story with much more drama in it,”

The Raid 4

I have no idea how they are going to continue the story 2 short hours after the events of the Raid, but I’m interested in it. Course, I’d be excited even if it was just them fighting for another hour and a half. Most of you know that this concept came up first, but here is the initial footage if you haven’t seen it yet:

Berandal starts filming on January 19th, and I’ll be sure to keep you posted as soon as I learn anything new.

New Details on Berandal

by kmiller

Most of the people who visit this site are aware of a little film called the Raid. The more hardcore know that Berandal, the sequel to the Raid, was planned first and that it will now be a trilogy. Well, it looks like the wait for more news is almost over, as details have been released in regards to the cast.

Hammer Girl

We all knew that Iko Uwais would be coming back, but the question was who would join him? Twitch has revealed that Hammer girl will be played by Julie Estelle while other members include Alex Abbad from Merantau, Marsha Timothy from the Forbidden Door,Mathias Muchus and Tio Pakusadewo.  Lastly, internationally renowned Silat practitioner Cecep Arif Rahman will also be playing a significant role.

Here is a video of the man in action:

Someone commented on one of my videos about Rahman before, and I’m super excited to see him exchange blows with the Merantau team. I’m going to be keeping a close eye on Gareth Evans’ twitter, so stay tuned for more details as filming gets closer.

Finishing Blow Episode 68

This week went much smoother than last week, but I still have some small kinks to work out. A lot of great topics, so feel free to sound off on anything you want!

You can actually hear my computer humming at certain parts, so sorry for the slight stuttering. Also, I changed the resolution, which altered the height of the pictures, so there is a slight gap at the top. But hey, practice makes perfect, right?

Berandal Gets Rolling in Jan

by kmiller

Who knew Twitter could be a reliable source of information? I quick search on Gareth Evan’s profile reveals some pretty interesting details about Berandal.

The first tweet I want to focus your attention on is this one:

Berandal starts in Jan, expect it to be completed sometime in October. Festival screenings will follow, release hopefully q1 or q2 of 2014.

So, this means that we should start seeing details for Berandal early next yer. While having a filming duration that lasts until October may be disheartening, I’m glad that they are taking their time with the project. Good fights take time, and I’d gladly wait for a better quality product.

Speaking of the fights, Evans feels pretty good about it:

Rewatched the final fight design for Berandal last night. Had been planning to trim it a little in terms of duration…

…but fuck it, I’m going to be self indulgent on this one – this is the best choreography we’ve ever done.

Again, I’m excited to hear that the team is geared up and ready to go. I know it’s not a lot to go off of, but I’ll take some news over nothing. I’ll keep you guys posted as I come across more.

Also, I need to be better about using Twitter…..

Finishing Blow Episode 66

I’m trying something new for the Finishing Blow. It’s not 100% perfect. The quality is low and the images are kinda big, but I think I like the direction it’s heading. Let me know if you prefer this or the older method, and I’ll adjust it accordingly.

Otherwise, there was a TON of stuff for this week, so be sure to check everything out.

Bonus Post: Iko Uwais is Married!?

by kmiller

It looks like love is in the air this year. For starters,  Tony Jaa got married back in May, and then we heard that Jeeja was married and pregnant. Now, it looks like Iko is also married. He married Audy Item on June 25th.

Check out the video below for the details:

Iko and Audy Married?

Anybody notice he said he was working on a remake with Sony? Looks like the Raid remake is already coming along fairly nicely…

I want to give a special thanks to Xino for bringing this to my attention. If you guys ever come across anything, feel free to hit me up. You can email me at kmiller.mamj@gmail.com or facebook me too. Otherwise, just post a comment and I’m sure to find it that way too.
